Crutches??

I recently broke my toe, and I got crutches. About how long does it take for the horrible pain in the underarms from the crutches to go away?

You shouldn't have any pain in your armpits if the crutches are properly fitted and you are using them correctly. The top of the crutch should not even touch the armpit area. You should be able to put 2 fingers in between the top of the crutch and your armpit when the crutches are put about a foot out in front of you. The part that you hold onto with your hand should be adjusted so that you have a slight bend in the elbow. That way you can bear your weight through your arms and not your armpits.

lets just say ull prob be off the crutches before that goes away. however if u try to ease of your crutches abit that might stop the irritation. i didnt know they gave crutches for a broken toe.

I broke my toe before and I never got crutches.it's better to have one pain in the toe than 3 pains,1 toe 2 sore underarms.Drop the crutches and hop along or limp along.

Make sure your back is straight at all times you are using a pair of crutches. Use hot pads under your armpits at night or as soon as you get up...it helps a lot.

Hope this helps you!!!

It sounds like you aren't using the crutches properly. You aren't supposed to have the crutches jammed up under your arms. You need to use the strength in your arms to keep them about an inch below your armpits. Your doctor should have adjusted them properly for you.

To answer your question, the pain will go away in less than a week which is probably longer than you will be using the crutches.

As a healthcare provider I have never given crutches for a broken toe. Throw them out, you shouldn't be using them. Did the provider give them to you, or was this someone elses idea?

its hard I know, but trust me,you will get the hang of it day by day,and as you use it the right way and your arms get stronger, the pain will stop.i had it too,its like riding a bike, wobbly at first and scary, but you become a pro in a couple days. youre actually using your underamrs to pull your weight right now,it will get better.
