i had the same exact problem.. and i promise no matter how much you try the crutches will never be comfortable.. okay for starters..no you dont have to call the school..when you get on the bus keep your crutches on the same step as you..okay so your just about to get on and your standing on the sidewalk..put your crutches right beside you. and just hop on the step..never ever put them on the step ahead of you..and also about the height..that will never be right..im kinda between 5'3 and 5'4 and when i put it on 5'4 it rubbed my underarms. and when i put it on 5'3 it was too low.. well just to let you know and i know i will sound really stupid but its the truth...i sprained my ankle on thursday may. 24 and its still sprained but i quit walking on my crutches because they bothered me worse then my ankle does..b/c the crutches rubbed my arms and almost made me fall but it was easier to walk normally all day and then take medicine at the end of the day to keep it from hurting the next morning..then to hurt all day from those stupid things! well thats about it!

when You put the crutches under your arm make sure shoulder is not going up. You will be sore at the end of the day. Most aluminum crutches have height adjusters on the. Don't forget about the hand grips. Wrap your ankle during the school hours but when you get home unwrap, elevate and ice.

Remember
R--Rest
I-- Ice
C-- Compression
E--Elevation.

Good luck I have had a sprain ankle and so has my son. They hurt REALLY bad!

Edit--- Ibuprofen will work wonders for the pain and swelling.

adjust the crutches so there is approximately a 20 degree bend in your elbow when holding them. be sure not to rest on the crutches by resting your armpits on the crutch. This can damage the nerves that run into your arms....you should have at least 2-3 finger space between the armpit and the crutch
