How do you use crutches?

I broke my ankle today playing soccer and I got a cast and crutches. I have to use the crutches for a week than I can walk with the cast. I used a wheelchair to get to the car and we just got back from the hospital like an hour ago so I havn't really had any crutches. I know about the towels under the armpit things but I'm 13. My parents are allowing me to use the school bus to get around since I want people to see me before I get to school. what will my friends say when they see me, I don't have any friends on my soccer team from my school so none of them know. should I go to the nurse when I get to school to get my pass to leave class early or the office. how do I walk with them. should I wear a sock over the shoe or would that be tacky. there is snow on the ground because I live in new hampsier

First of all, do not worry about what other people think!

Be berry, berry careful, especially in wet weather or where the floor can get slippery from moisture as the bottom can skid out from underneath you. Go slow.

One should not place all their weight on the shoulder area to the pad on the crutch. This can hurt and cause damage to the shoulder.

Ideally, one should use their arm muscles and avoid using the armpit/shoulders...

Go slow and take your time. It will take time to get used to and take time to improve so, you will want to allow extra time in preparing yourself to go places with the expectation that it will take longer...

TAKE YOUR TIME. An ankle like a knee, is very important and you want it to heal as best as possible...If you have to, after it heals, talk to your doctor about physical therapy to make sure they help you re-work those muscles that become weakened and get them back to normal.

First of all the doctor who gave you the crutches should have showed you. You should wear a sock so your foot dont get frost bite. Before you go to school you need to practice slowly, because you will fall. It takes practice. Maybe you could tell you mom you are scared and she will help you good luck and hope you feel better soon.

watever man,see your doc or physical therapist...stop wining like a baby
