Extra padding on crutches? |
i just got knee surgery and i am using crutches and i see people who have extra padding on their crutches who need to use them for a long time, and i was wondering what people use for extra padding, like hand towels or something? i kno how it feels....i also had knee surgery last april......i kno that some people use hand towels wrapped around and stuck on with tape......SOOOO i tried it and it worked......but i didnt think it was comfortable.......but i guess it depends on what type of towel u use......So i tried a softer thicker towell and was SO MUCH HAPPIER with it!!!! well, when my son broke his ankle , we but some foam padding on them and covered them with a towel to absorb extra sweat, and used duct tape to hold it on, it seemed to work , good luck and feel better soon I've put on hand towels using rubber bands. You shouldn't be putting your pits on top any way. Your hands should be holding most of the weight. My son (age 12) suffered 3rd degree burns to his leg and had to walk on crutches for a while ... I commend him and anyone else that uses these things because its exhausting. He insisted by telling the nurse about them going under his arm pits, and will want them padded. The nurse told him that the proper way to use them is below the arm pit, not under them. The goal is to carry yourself not your crutches carry you. It requires a lot of arm muscles and balance was the proper way to use them. Good Luck in your Recovery |
