Help with my crutches? |
I'm 14 years old and I probably need ACL reconstruction surgery on my knee sometime next year and will probably need to be on crutches for a bit. and I was just curious what did people say to you when you walked around school or outside with crutches. What people will say is one of my main concerns. Why are you waiting till next year to get the surgery? Do it ASAP...at your age the sooner you get this done the better off you will be. Your growth plates should be fused at this point so that you can have the surgery. As far as crutches goes, you will get a lot of sympathy from others, who will be super nice and try to do things for you. Plus you will only be with crutches for 1-2 wks tops. Don't stress about it! People were actually very nice! They offered to carry my books and walk me to class. Usually one or 2 friends will help out, even if it's just so they can be late to their next class or get to ride the elevator. :) I broke my foot in a car wreck pretty bad..I had to wear crutches for a month!!!<a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/ht... target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/ca... alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/htt... Most people are really kind just concerned...I found most people to be really nice...It was kind of fun to get the attention. If they are your crutches, why not jazz them up a bit. Add embelishment: paint on them with nail enamel in interesting designs, glue on fake jemstones, etc.. Make them something to talk about but in a more interesting way--it's kind of a distraction but also a way to express yourself. Read the answers you already have..they are all good ones. And I agree. don't wait on this surgery, if it needs to be done, then just do it now. Then you won't even have to be on crutches by the time that school starts:} Don't worry about it...most people won't say anything to you, and if anything they will ask you what happened- they won't make fun of you. The only people that made fun of me on crutches were total jerks...they thought that my pain was made up for attention, and quite frankly I just ignored them, and didn't let their comments bother me. People who didn't know me never really said anything about me on crutches sometimes they'd look, but nobody ever said anything to me. |
