I need some information about crutches! READ + HELP PLEASE!!? |
So, just recently (1/19/2008) I fell off the bottom step of my porch and went straight down my drive way like, 2 and a half feet or so. My dad took me to urgent care and they took xrays and put me in a velcro-type cast. I borrowed my friend's crutches and I've been using them since Saturday night but, now, my arms are hurting more than my foot hurts. I don't know what to do. I've tried to put towels or pillows on the crutches so that they don't hurt my arms as much, but it just doesn't work. My arms hurt and my shoulders hurt, even part of my side and thighs hurt. I honestly, don't know what to do. I am currently using crutches right now and have been for 6 weeks because of a broken leg. First thing is is the height on your crutches probably needs to be adjusted. Next thing is the part that goes under your arm pit, well don't press down on it with your armpit. That will cause your arms to hurt. Next, you could just be experiencing sore muscles from your fall. Did you catch yourself with your hands? Did you hit your sides on the driveway too as well as your foot? You might just be sore from the fall, especially if you caught yourself and rolled for 2 and a half feet like you said. You may need to ajust them so that they are the right height for you Your supposed to be placing more of your weight on your hands and not under your arms ... its definitely more comfortable and once you get used to walking with the crutches it will be a breeze |
