I'm scared of using crutches?

I'm 14 and yesterday while playing basketball w/my brother I hurt my ankle. Its a hairline fracture and I have to wear a cast. I'm in a temporary cast right now and I'm getting a real cast on friday. I think I'll get pink or light blue because I love those colors and I can see what people write on it. I can use a wheelchair but I would rather use crutches because it will attract less attention, I mean lots of people at my school are on crutches every day. I'm afraid that I'll fall, or I won't get to class on time or I'll rin into people in the hall. I've had a cast on my arm before but It was during the summer so I wasn't in school. You don't think that It will hurt when they put the cast on or when its on do you. Can I wear a sock over the cast I think I'll have a shoe that goes over the cast

I've played w/crutches but I've never actually had to use them, and they hurt your arms is there anything I can do to help with that

There's nothing to be afraid of with crutches. I have had to use them many times. Just take your time and you will be fine. Have a buddy carry your books etc. Your teachers will understand if you are late getting to a class. If there's a problem stop in to see the school nurse and she may give you a note for your classes.
As far as getting sore under your arms...it does happen. You might want to add extra protection on the upper arms. I wrapped hand towels on mine with tape. You will be fine...relax and go with the flow..

you can put padding there so it will hurt your arm less, and for your school you can ask to get dismissed like 3 minutes early from each class, they should let you do that- people do that at my school. but idk

gooluck!

You'll be fine. After awhile you'll be able to zip around on them. My son was on crutches almost 2 1/2 years with a broken femur (that wouldn't heal) He was so good on crutches, he could carry pots/pans, a glass of water etc.
Make sure the crutches fit properly. Allow at least 2-3 fingers between your armpit & the crutch. Keep your weight on your forearms, not on the crutches. You can damage the nerves putting all your weight on the crutches. Also get a good backpack to carry everything around in.
