Prednisolone for Croup? |
My son was prescribed Prednisolone for his Croup. He has had Croup in the past, and has taken Albuterol for it. Last night's Croup attack was very scary, with that Stridor symptom, so we took him to the ER. They gave us Prednisolone to take 2X a day for 3-5 days. We started this morning. So my son had his 2 doses today. My youngest daughter who is now eight had croup and was hospitalized about ten times in her first year. One time another doctor was on call and diagnosed her with asthma. Each time she had "croup" they gave her albuterol and prednisolone. My son also has been giving prednisolone many times for his asthma. It usually works almost instantly and very well at opening up the lungs. It can make them shakey and a little restless though. If he needs it two times a day it is better to spread the doses out once every twelve hours...that way the medication stays in his system better and evenly. This is how the medication works best. He should be okay if you give him the medication right. Prednisolone is the best medication for croup. it is a steroid and it will help open his lungs....give it to him |
