Is there a shot to help reduce the symptoms of croup?

My son gets croup every time he gets a bad cold. It is horrible, for days he is lethargic and feverish with heavy breathing and racing heart. I've heard that there is a shot he can get when he comes down with croup to help. Does anyone have any information about this? Thanks.

Steriods can be given by injection if the child has viral croup, and the steam method hasn't worked.

My son was given a drug that was a steriod to help stop the croup spells... it didn't work! I found that with him, taking him out side in the cold worked the best. Report It

I am very sorry to hear that your son has this agonizing condition. And based on my mum's reaction when I had it as a child, and as an infant, I know what you are going through.

Here is an article I found that tells about the possibility of a steroid shot to relieve some aspects of the croup. Also it mentions that this can be done with a pill.

I was born in Texas, my Dad was a doctor and as I had this off and on up to the age of 8 or so, I remember him saying that warm days, cold nights was thought to be a cause. I wouldn't know if that theory still holds as this was 50 years ago. There were no specific treatments back then, just treat the symptoms for more comfort. My Mum's home remedy was to soak a sock in very warm water and wrap it around my next. She was so confident in this and convinced me also that it would work, that in itself I remember feeling better.

The link says that croup is seldom serious so it is important for you to convey this to your son. I think sometimes all we need to hear when we are sick is that it will eventually be OK. And when this comes from Mum I think it can be very effective. Here's the link and good luck, and again, I'm sorry you have to bear this:
