My 4 yr old has croup AGAIN!?

He gets it 2-4 times a yr since he was 1. He hasn't run a fever but once. The doctor doesn't seem to be too concerned, told me to give him Benadryl to help him sleep peacefully. All the barking and strange breathing sounds are coming from his throat (like someone is putting pressure on his Adam's Apple.) I know all the symptoms, and the suggested treatments and such but my question is this...WHY??? Why does he get this so many times a year every year? We live in a different state now than we did his last 3 years of life, it seems like this disease is in him for life and flares up when it wants to. Anyone got the same thing going on? What did your doctors say about the recurrences?

I know exactly what you are talking about! My 7 year old gets that way too, since he was 1. The doctors did a breathing treatment on him (thinking it might be asthma), but that didn't help any. It just lasts for a day or two then goes away. To try to help him when he does have it, we let him either breath in cold air (go outside if it's cold out) or steam air (shower). I have yet to hear the cause of this though. My son gets it usually 1-2 times a year. I also put a vapor air thing in his room at night.
