Is there a cure for croup?

time - but being in a hot steamy bathroom or cool night air will cut the cough for a bit

I had it as a baby and my mum told me I always had to be upright for 2 weeks day and night. It passed but I think my breathing is not normal. I sigh a lot to get enough air.
