Took 5 year old to hospital he has croup?

what can i do at home to help put my son at ease he is on clear liquid diet goes back to doctor in 2 days he is not doing well pluss he has asthma please help me to help my son better

along with following what the dr at the hospital told you and making sure he takes all medications prescribed you can try these methods

-use a humidifier in his room at night-this will help keep the air moist and will help to loosen up the congestion in his chest to help him cough it up easier

-prop the head of his bed
up on a few phone books-tilting the bed will help him to breathe easier at night or during nap times

-make sure to keep him out of drafty enviroments (don't keep windows open in the house, or in the car while driving, etc)

-normal saline drops (ocean spray) in the nose will help with nasal congestion

-KEEP HIM HYDRATED!! most important thing of all. when little ones are sick they don't like to drink or eat anything. give him pedialyte-it comes in several flavors and is way better than gatorate to help restore his electrolytes lost due to being sick.

good luck to you and i hope he feels better soon

Awe................ I feel for you both. Try turning on all the faucets in the bathroom on hot. Shut door. Your making a steam room. Both of you sit in there for about 15min or so. See if it helps. I went through this when I was young and also did it for my son who I past the asthma on too. Also no cold drinks that can bring on an attack. Put humidifier in bedroom this also gives relief. Good Luck. Don't hesitate if he worsens to take back to ER.
