How to alleviate symptoms of croupe? |
Hi I have a BIG problem!!! I took my daughter to the pediatric ER this afternoon after three days of fever, harse voice, barky, phlegmy cough at nightime (I haven't slept for three days!!) and crabbiness! They took x-rays of her chest and throat and diagnosed her with croup. They prescribed an antibiotic (because doctor tought it could also be the beginning of bronchitis) and a steroid. Well as I was about to give my daughter her first dose, the bottle slipped out of my hands and the whole thing spilled on the floor!!!! I called the pharmacist and explained what happened, she said my insurance would not cover the second prescription and the medicine is pricey. She suggested I take her back to the ER and get another one (which I don't want to) I gave her the antibiotic only....is it ok to just give her home remedies for croup only (moist air, steam baths, plenty of rest and water) I know that the steroids are not the cure for croup. What should I do???? No - you need to get that medicine. Croup can be handled with the home remedies, but in addition to the steroid. You need to take her back to the ER and get a new prescription. Croup can get out of control and do serious damage if you are not watching it. Please do not believe that a home remedy will fix this, it will make your daughter more comfortable - That is all it will do. Steroids are not the cure, but they strengthen her immune system and she needs that. i have a friend who swears by this, says that it helped her son and she got it from her mom..slice onions like for a hamburger (seriously) spread them out on the child's chest and cover with a towel...no joke Best thing to do is sit in the bathroom with the shower on as hot as can be. Thats what my mother used to to for me when I was a baby. I never took steriods or anything like that. The antibiotic will only help if it is a bacterial issue. |
