hi sundown, i am a crohnie like yourself. dxed at age 12. had my 1st major surgery at age 17 and given an ileostomy to save my life. Currently, I am on Entocort, Humira shots, and for spasms Bentyl, for pain Percocet.

I was on 6 MP but it started to cause liver toxicity then I was stablized at a lower dose. After a few months, my WBC was down to 1 so I had to stop it altogether. I have had obstructions too. They know me very well in the ER. lol

Are you aware of the crohn's and colitis foundation of america's website and their live chat/help line M-F 9 am - 5 pm (EST) that is run by healthcare professionals? This is a new program that the organization is doing to get the word out to help those newly dxed.

Did you also know that females are not suppose to take hormonal birth control of any kind because it's a well known fact that ppl w/IBD esp. Crohn's tend to form clots when they are flaring. The blood becomes sticky when inflammation is present, thus causing clotting. When I had my stroke 2 yrs. ago, that was the first thing all the doctors asked me....are you on any birth control? People w/Crohn's tend to have sticky blood when flaring....luckily, I wasn't so I knew that I didn't cause my problem.

There are books that CCFA is selling about IBD sold in their book store as well as information on getting disability, diet, coping, etc.

Best of health to you.

PS: to meet others like yourself, go to the ccfa site, click on events and chapters on the left side, then click on your state and you will find a local support chapter near you where you can meet others like yourself. The meetings are great. You get to meet MDs, dieticians, surgeons, drug reps, etc. I belong to the chapter near me, I never knew that there are over 1000 ppl dxed with this in my county alone.

im 47 had it since 2001 but has been in remission and now off meds
