Crohn's disease. Can it be contagious?

Im a person with Crohn's disease and happy to say that I'm doing great handling the problem. My question is if Crohn's disease can be passed along to another person such as a partner, for example kissing someone or having sex?

NO. It is not caused by any type of micro-organisms. Because of this, you can not transmit it in any way. The best we know today, it is inherited.

I guess you *could* say, if you have a child, you can transmit it... but I don't think that's what you asked. Even then, I know of several people with that problem, and none of their parents have the disease.

i know lots of ppl with crohns that have kids and their husbands don't and didn't get it. i have crohn's and i am glad you are doing good!! Report It

chrons can be passed on genetically but it usually skips generations i have chrons, was diagnosed when i was like 12. I am now 25 and have been on remicade since the drug was introduced to gi patients and it has worked out amazing Report It

chrons I think can be contagious.
It is a bug most people are exposed to this bug every day and the people that cant get rid of it develope crohns.
There is great evidence that it is a map infection. Report It

No.

You need to learn about your disease:

no u cants past it on i had its 8 years and i have 2 kids

Nope, it's a disease of your innerds, it's not contagious. It's more of a hereditary type of disease.

Not that I know of...

Contagious? No But it can be passed down heriditarily

Crohn's disease is not contagious. Your risk of having it increases if a (blood) relative has it, but that's a result of heredity, not catching it. You can read more about it in the source below.

No...it is not an STD...it is a disorder of your digestive track...u need to talk to your doctor and go online and learn more about Crohns...it is not contagious in any way ...it is on the other had hereditary...if someone in your family has Crohns, Colitis or IBS, you can have any one of them...they are all similar disorders...one is just worst than the other...if u have any questions on it u can email ot IM me i have recently found out i have it and have learnt lots on the disease...Good Luck....

no,not at all.its an "auto-immune "illness, like rheumatoid arthritis for example.in other words, for reasons unknown to medicine at this date,in people with crohns, the body attacks and hurts itself, and infection occurs.it is not a transmittable infection,so no one can catch crohns from u,anymore than u can catch arthritis from someone.that being said, crohns and ulceritive colitis-both inflammatory bowel diseases of autoimmune nature-can be passed down in families-a genetic predisposition for having these illnesses can be passed along.so its possible ur children or grandchildren may have it someday.possible, but not set in stone.some people in a family get it,some dont.no way to predict.so go ahead, kiss someone-u wont hurt them!!!!!

NO it cannot be contagious. Has anyone ever explained this disease to you? It is not a sexual disease and nobody can "catch" Crohn's.

Definitely not!

NOPE

No, it is not contagious in any way.
