Exercising and gaining weight with Crohn's disease? |
I'm a person with Crohn's disease. I love to work out and getting in shape. My goal is always trying to gain more weight and muscle mass. Ever since I was diagnosed with Crohn's about 2 months ago, I had to change my diet. I used to drink whey protein shakes, but now, with the disease, whey is certainly a bad idea. Is there any way a person with Crohn's disease can gain weight and get bigger? Could soy protein become a substitute? Just check the options at the store and check that these things don't give you any flare-ups and may harm you as in trigger Diarrhea and flatulence or anything too sweet, fatty or refined. Why don't you check it with your dietitian to see if it clashes with stuff in your prescribed drugs. Usually a High fibre then low fibre diet is recommended in some cases so during a flare up, limit high fiber foods and follow a low fiber diet. You know, eating a high protein diet with lean meats, fish and eggs, may help relieve symptoms and make you bigger with excercise. Your registered dietitian may recommend pre-digested nutritional drinks to give your bowel a rest. Basically it's hard to give you a definitive answer but some cases are allowed soynuts which is a variation of soybean so it might be. Good luck. "Soy" is also bad for us Crohnies as well as non-Crohnies. Report It |
