I think I have IBS, Crohn's disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, or Celiac Disease.?

I've had constipation and horrible abdominal pain for over a month now. I've been to the doctors about 3 times in the past 2 weeks. I've been on pain medication and 2 different kinds of laxitives. The pain medication doesnt work for my abdominal pain. And the laxitives work, but my x-ray says I'm still full (after being on the laxitives for over a week). I've also done 4 enemas. I also had a catscan and it shows nothing is wrong. I think I have either IBS, Crohn's disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, or Celiac Disease. Also, I've become very depressed and emotional. I dont even think my boyfriend wants to talk to me becuase of it. I'm just wondering what I can do to help the abdominal pain, becuase my perscription pills aren't working. I can't even travel short distances in a veichle without feeling sicker. I don't know what to do becuase my laxitives and medication (perscribed by the doctor) aren't working. What should I do?

hi, fyi: Crohn's disease is inflammatory bowel disease as well as ulcerative colitis. I have had crohn's since the age of 12. I was diagnosed via a colonscopy and bloodwork.

With crohn's, you can be constipated or have the big "D"or both. Other symptoms are fatigue, blood in stool, nausea, low grade fever, abdominal pain, joint pain (related to Crohns), as well as stomach spasms.

you should get in to see the GI as soon as possible and have tests done including an endoscopy to rule out celiac (don't worry they give you stuff so you won't remember a thing--I've had it done several times), as for pain have you tried a heating pad on your gut 15 mintues on 15 minutes off or Thermacare heat wraps for your back. You put the heating discs on your abdomen and can sleep with it for 8 hrs. if you are in pain (I do that alot when I flare).

Eat smaller meals frequently, don't drink, don't smoke, and keep track of what types of food bother your gut.

seriously, go back to your GI and demand for tests. If he won't help, you have the right to fire and hire another MD.

i provided a link to the crohns and colitis site where you can call a healthcare worker or chat w/them live on live M-F 9 am - 5pm (EST).

I would make an appointment with a Gastroinderologist (a specialist in the GI tract).

He should be able to find out what you have.

GOOD LUCK!!!

oh, yea...

and like what's his face (2 answers below me), i have crohn's disease too (since i was 13) and i too was diagnosed with a colonoscopy/endoscopy.

If you ask me, that's the best way to go.

After one month of suffering, you need more investigations than a normal CTScan, proly your doc may like to recommend a colonoscopy.
Saddest part is your BF's behaviour, I have full sympathy for you.
Wish you a speedy recovery!

IBS means a lack of diagnosis so the place to start is Celiac Disease, then IBD or Crohns.
For any of that u need to see a GI doc.
Celiac is what I know so I'll help u with that.

To test for Celiac u need to be consuming the GLUTEN FILLED diet and be blood tested for the Celiac antibodies, then often an endoscopy is done.
Do NOT start the gluten free diet until u have figured out whats wrong bc u can make the tests inaccurate.

Pills do not work for Celiac, the only treatment is the gluten free diet (once ur diagnosed.) Celiac is the lesser of all the evils listed bc it isnt fatal if managed and is easier to deal with.

Celiac can indeed affect emotions.

For more info on Celiac, try these sites:

Good luck!

well you can rule out chron's, inflammatory bowel disease and IBS if youhad either one of those you wouldnt be contsipated. you would be going too much and i have no idea what celiac is so i cant say it isnt that but my fellow crohns' and ibs people would agree its not that.

You need to go to a GI.. And still it may take a while to get better depending on what it actually is. You have to be your own advocate when it comes to something like this and stay on the doctors and just bug the crap out of them until you get answers atleast so you know what you are dealing with. You will probably need to have a sbft, colonoscopy and other test I am sure I am forgetting those are the 2 test that helped diagnose me along with blood work..
You can have constipation with IBD (which is either Crohn's disease or Colitis) or IBS.
Good luck

You poor thing. Yep get your doctor to send you to a g.i. before it's too late. I ended up in emerg. with a huge infection and a bunch of other crap before they found out i had crohn's . Personaly i think i've had it since i was a teen, but family doctors are not trained to pick up on the signs. So to them it was...here take a pill and go lie down. I always had upset stomaches and poopy bum. But when i lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks, cause i was not eatting, and craping all the time, raging fevers ect...it was time to go to the hospital. 9 days later, and tons of meds...i was aloud to go home. good luck
