Where is crohn's disease in the body?

where is crohn's disease in the body

hi angel, i am a female crohn's survivor that affects the digestive tract. It affects anywhere from the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestines, large intestines, rectum.

for more accurate information go to the Crohn's & Colitis website for dx, treatment, latest treatments, surgery, diet, coping, as well as locating a local support chapter near you.

They also have a live chat as well as a hotline that is run by healthcare professionals well versed in IBD (aka Crohns or ulcerative colitis).

Feel free to email me with questions.

For nursing student--YES, I am a survivor --all crohn's pts. are survivors b/c we can deal with our illness instead of letting it get to us. Unless YOU HAVE been in our shoes, don't go attacking me or any other person with Crohn's. Have you heard of cancer survivors??? Those are people who have cancer & have fought to stay alive. Crohn's pts. do the same. You don't see me attacking your gay lifestyle (per your profile) or claim that you can see into the future. FYI:Crohn's can affect the ENTIRE digestive tract even in the small intestines. Ask a GI. & pls don't start anything. I am speaking for all crohn's survivors here--WE KNOW what we are talking about & we deal w/it the best we can.

The intestines

usually large intestine...read this

Crohn's affects the small and large intestines primarily. It causes other symptoms in other areas as well.

Here is some more info on Crohn's:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/...

chrons is an inflammatory condition that can manifest anywhere along the gastrointestinal tract. This covers mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and anus.

It most commonly affects the iliocaecal junction. This is the joining of the end of the small bowel (the ileum) to the beginning of the large bowel (the caecum)

Symptoms include:
Change in bowel habit.
Increased frequency of passing stool
Looser consistency of stool- usually explosive diarrhoea
Mucus in stool
Blood in stool
Weight loss
Abdominal pain

Crohn's Disease mainly affects the intestines, however, it can affect anywhere from the mouth to the anus, and everywhere in between.

Edit - And to the person who claims to be a Crohn's "survivor", it makes it sound like it is a curable disease, and I'm sorry to say that it is not, there is no cure, you may survive outbreaks and go into remission, but you can't CURE Crohn's. You will have it for the rest of your life.

anywhere through the GI tract.
and dont listen to the guy that said in the large intestine becasue i have crohns and mine is mainly in the small intestine and i know a lot of people who have it in both.

to properly diagnose the disease and find out exactly where your crohns is, you'd have to do a colonoscopy and an endoscopy.
