Adenomous polyp & now Crohn's Disease?

Was diagnosed two years ago with IBS, crappy Kaiser Doctor. Problems just seemed to get worse, nothing was helping. Finally went to a GI specialist who ordered a Flex Sig, he found and removed a polyp which was the kind that turns into cancer, so he wanted a full blown colonoscopy. Yesterday went in and did the works and he now found three significant places in my intestine that have inflammation. He took biopsy's of all three area's and said that in all likelyhood I do not have IBS but have either Crohn's Disease or Colitis.

I am fairly young for all this ridiculousness, but I am wondering, because I already had one bad polyp and now have been diagnosed with either Colitis or Crohn's.... should I be concerned about cancer?

Can you post your symptoms? How long have you had symptoms? Any family hx of stomach/intestinal cancer?

I'm 31 yrs old and I have crohns...I suspect that I've had it for quite sometime and its just gotten worse over the past few years. I can remember being a teen ager and having stomach problems. I had a few polyps removed...thankfully they came back benign. I have a family history of intestinal cancer so I can understand your frustration and concern. Before jumping to any conclusions you just have to wait for the results of the bx. I know how hard the wait is but there is no sense in worrying until you have to. For now, just adjust your diet to food that does not aggrivate your symptoms. Keep it simple...nothing w/alot of condiments, acid, etc.
I wish you all the best. Here are a few sites for you to research colitis and crohns. Good luck!

You need to change your diet.

Same thing happened to my husband at an early age. He was given steroids which had horrible side effects and really did nothing for his Crohn's. He tried all of the so called grain diets, the bland diets, the roughage diets, nothing seemed to help diet wise. He is now on Asacol and a weekly injection of Methatrexate. His lesions have almost subsided and he eats almost everything except milkshakes and asparagus-well he doesn't like asparagus so he doesn't eat it. He has a colonoscopy once a year to check for cancer which so far the methatexate has been keeping the precancerous lesions and polyps from forming. He was misdiagnosed for years, too-I agree some crappy doctors.
