Does anyone know about Crohn's Disease?

My boyfriend has been since Saturday. I forced him to go to the hospital when he was complaining about lower right abdominal pain, and diarrhea. I thought he might have had appendicitis, because this happened to my dad, and he almost died, because his appendix had burst. Well the doctors did a cat scan and blood work. They don't know what is wrong with him. They first said it was acute appendicitis, but then changed their minds and thought it could be crohn's disease. Does anyone here have crohns disease, or know anyone who has it? My boyfriend frequently has abdominal pain and diarrhea, but it usually resolves on it's own, but this time it didn't. He was admitted into the hospital about 5 years ago for this same reason, but was released when he suddenly felt better. Does this happen with Crohn's disease, does it sometimes hurt, then feel better on it's own? Please help with any information you may have. I'm very worried about him.

My Uncle has Crohn's Disease. Its an auto-immune disease that I believe is initially caused by a viral infection. When he first started getting sick he had just finished high school and that was around 40 years ago. At that time, the doctors didn't know about Crohn's, and he was diagnosed with colitis. He had severe abdominal pain an ulcers throughout his digestive tract. He ended up having a colostomy (having his intestines re-routed, so his solid wastes empty from a hole in his abdomen and into a bag instead of the normal route). Despite that, he has been plagued with fatigue and extreme pain ever since. Some days he feels well and other days he is completely incapacitated. He never knows from day to day what to expect. If your boyfriend has Crohn's he is going find life very challenging. Fortunately, more is being learned about the disease and treatments have improved.

My old girlfriend had Crohn's. It was extremely heartbreaking. She would have her ups and her downs. The doctor you go to does make a HUGE difference. In the past year she has gone to 3 doctors. The first was just OK, no change. The second was HORRIBLE, made a her take a very far step backwards. The third shes been going to for a month or two, and he seems real nice and he's doing a good job.

It was the most heartbreaking thing ever.

Crohn's Disease is an inflammatory condition of the intestines. It is usually found in the small intestine (most commonly the ileum) but can be found in the colon as well. The usual course of treatment includes steroids and diet changes. In severe cases, surgery may be indicated to remove the diseased portion of bowel. However, Crohn's Disease almost always comes back. The symptoms may include: pain, nausea, blood from rectum or black stool, rapid weight loss, fistula from intestine to skin, small bowel obstruction, or diarrhea. Chrohn's Disease is pretty easy to diagnose by CT or an Upper G.I Series with Small Bowel Follow Thru. Crohn's and its sister Ulcerative Colitis are the most common inflammatory conditions of the bowel
