Diet Advice for people with Crohn's disease!?

Before I was diagnosed with Crohn's, my doctor thought maybe I had Celiac disease. So I went on a Gluten Free Diet and it helped. Even after it turned out to be Crohn's and not Celiac, I stayed on the Gluten Free Diet to this day. While it is not a cure, you will find the flare ups are not as brutal. Try it.

hi sincerely,

im a crohnie like you. go to the ccfa site to find the latest updates on diet, exercise, womens issues, and to find a local ccfa chapter re: their educational meetings. They have an 800 number you can call on their site which is manned by professionals that can answer your questions as well. hang in there. you are not alone.

also, the american dietician association has a site where you can find a registered RD who works with ppl like us.

feel free to ask me questions. ive a vetran of crohns for over 27 yrs. :)

hi my son has Crohn's and hasnt had a flare up for about a year he is on a fat free diet only 30 grams of fat per day works great for him If you limit or remove fatty fried foods from your diet flares should be very few if any.

Hi. I have Celiac and have a question, did u start the gluten free diet BEFORE being tested for Celiac? Because you do know that u need to be ingesting gluten prior to blood testing or endoscopy (the best two ways to diagnosed CD) for the test to be accurate. And blood testing has a high rate of false negatives. So perhaps you may also have Celiac or a genetic predisposotion for it. (genetic testing can find out.)
I agree a gluten free diet can help the Crohns patietn but I find many ppl with Celiac were wrongly diagnosed wtih Crohns first. It takes an experienced GI doc to correctly diagnosed CD.

So far for me, I haven't been able to find any foods that cause flare ups. Not sure if that's good or bad.

It seems that diet is an individual thing, just like medications. Some thingd work, some don't. Some cause problems, some work wonders.

I think the best thing to do is just experiment.
