What is the typical length of a hospital stay when being tested for Crohn's disease? |
My boyfriend was put in the hospital on Thursday, and he says the doctors want to test him for Crohn's disease. The thing is though, it doesnt seem like their really doing anything. He says they want him to stay there till the gastroenterologist sees him and does tests, but he hasnt seen the gastroeinterolist yet, and basically he's just sitting there in the hospital WAITING. He also doesnt even feel sick at all anymore, hasnt since yesterday. How long does it typically take to be tested for Crohn's disease, and how long should he be in the hospital for? It depends on the doctor. The hospital cannot do anything without the doctor. The tests themselves ask the Dr and dot take no for answer My husband was in the hospital for 6 days. Test after test. He stopped feeling sick too because they cleaned all of that nasty stuff from his intestines. Those gastro Dr's are sooo busy, and hard to come by. Be patient, it will be sooo worth the wait because once they put him on Asacol (the usual meds for this problem) he won't have tummy aches or make yucky stinkies that linger any more! Also, keep him away from RED meats like steak etc. and spicy stuff. Also stress. All of those things cause "flare ups" and he will need to take steroids to heal the flare up. Good luck!! I was in the hospital for 6 days, but that was for a multitude of tests besides Crohn's. It can usually be done fairly quickly, but then again it could depend on the hospital and the Dr, and they might be looking into other things, seeing how he handles different treatments and such while he's already in the hospital. |
