Can leg cramps cause pulled muscles?

Since I've begun excerising regularly (almost 1 yr now), I've become prone to nighttime leg cramps. I've learned prevention techniques (potassium, magnesium, calcium, etc.), but when I don't pay attention, the cramps do come back.

Yesterday, I was awakened by a severe cramp in my right calf. My leg was sore for most of the day yesterday, but I didn't really give it much thought. When I first stepped out of bed this a.m., I almost fell from the pain. Not another cramp, just very sore. I've been up for 4.5 hours now & when I get up from sitting, the pain is significant.

Has anyone else had this effect from cramps? Could it be a pulled muscle or maybe a lactic acid reaction?

Yes, my diet is well balanced & I drink lots of water. Like I said, I know the prevention, I just need to stay conscious of it.

I'm guessing the V-8 probably works because of the extremely high sodium content. Salt is sometimes a very effective remedy.

I get severe calf cramps from time to time and it leaves me with really sore legs at times. I definitely believe that you can have pulled muscles from cramping especially if the muscles have been heavily excercised recently. The muscles are already in a weakened state so it doesn't take much to damage them further.

I practice pulling my feet into a position that eases my calf cramps so if I wake up with cramps I can quickly minimize the damage without having to think too much.

Good luck...

It's happened to me once or twice, that I'd get such a bad cramp the muscle was sore the next day. I don't know that it's a "pulled" muscle but just as when you work any muscle real hard (or overwork it) it will tend to get sore.

NO

Not a pulled muscle, residual from severe leg cramp. Try drinking more water. Is you diet well balanced? If continues see a doctor.

I experience leg cramps as well, it is from low potassium. You are sore the next day because the muscle has been restricted for so long, the best thing I have found to fix this problem is to stretch and when you feel the muscle cramping drink a glass of V8, I know it sounds weird but it really works.

It's not a pulled muscle, but it is a strained muscle. After the severe leg cramp, your muscle is still recovering. When you sit or are still (like when you're sleeping), your muscle is not being used and so it becomes stiff - thus being so painful. There isn't really a good way to keep this from happening except being careful when you stand up and walk around a little to work out your muscle.

Since you are having so many cramps and problems - especially since you started exercising, maybe you need to look at your workout. Are you doing too strenuous a routine? Are you maintaining proper form for all your moves?
