Anybody had cosmetic dentistry? |
what did you have (not bleaching) ? how great was the discomfort....and was it expensive? oh..and are you pleased with the results..was it worth it? im in the process of having cosmetic dental work done as i had a really bad accident 10 yrs ago. iv had the opp and have to wait for te final result but the hard work is done. i was put to sleep so it didnt hurt and to prevent infection i used salt water as a mouth wash. there is no pain and well worth it the only thing is it feels a bot odd at first but makes you feel great and boost your confidence! if your contemplating it then do it its really good and actually good for your teeth in the long run. btw im using my bf yahoo account. I havent had it done but have seriously looked into. Ive known people who had it and the cost can be from a couple hundred to a couple thousand depending on what you get done. For example veneers and crowns and dental implants are pretty expensive.(into the thousands)Bonding would be cheaper...around a few hundred. Im not sure about the discomfort but Im sure it would be worth it to be confident and happy with your teeth I've had a couple of crowns on teeth which were getting pretty tatty, one top and one on the lower jaw. There isn't a National Health dentist in the Town where I live, so I had to buy health insurance from Denplan. In essence, this means that I no longer pay the dentist's fees (these are paid by the insurance) but I still had to pay for the laboratory work (making the crowns). I always had the best teeth. My parents paid for braces and I had a nice smile. Now, over time, I've had a penchant for eating lemons. Eventually, it ate the enamel completely off of my just fine front teeth so I had to have crowns. It was freaking awful! They sawed my real teeth into fangs and put temporaries on. Then I went back in to have the permanent crowns put on and they cracked one after shooting my mouth full of novocaine several times for the godawful pain. So, finally I got back there after they had a new crown made and it takes three hours to put two crowns on my front teeth! Several rounds of novocaine and now I don't have my real teeth anymore. I was still in pain and they couldn't shoot my mouth up anymore so I was in utter misery until the end. If these crowns fall off, I'll look like Count Dracula. I just wish I never ate lemons. I would never willingly have any cosmetic dentistry except bleaching (which you can do at home; my kids did) or orthodontia. It is shocking what they do to your real teeth and then it doesn't last forever. In ten years or so, I'll go thru this crown crap again. Unless a person's teeth are just awful, I would never recommend it. NEVER. I don't know how these stars go and get all their teeth crowned. They are probably loaded up on Valium and pain killers. Not me. I was laying in a chair darn near about to panic and the pain was almost too much for me. Most dentists don't sedate now and I was about to come out of that chair! If you are going in for some cosmetic dentsitry for whatever reason, find a dentist who uses what's called "conscious sedation". I will never use a dentist again who doesn't. Oh, and the crowns were $900 a piece for a total of $1800. All that dentistry doesn't come cheap. I was in pain and scared and they got paid well for my misery. I had 4 veneers on my front teeth recently. Replacements for some that I had done over 20 years ago after chipping the bottom off my teeth in an accident. The first time round they were done on the NHS but this time I had to pay privately (about 拢400 each). I was told originally that they would last about 15 years so they did well. There is no pain at all - the front of the tooth is gently scuffed up to give a surface for the veneer to adhere to. If you have particularly sensitive teeth your dentist will probably give you a shot of anaesthetic. A good dentist will take lots of before and after photos and arrange for "trial teeth" to make sure you are happy with the finished affect. In my view, veneers should mimic natural teeth, look nice but not look too "perfect". |
