Why is it important to study genetics in a course on child development? List several specific reasons.?

Genetics are very important not only to determine a child's hair or eye color but to also determine the medical history of the child's family, years ago no-one cared what your family history was. Now we know that we are "carbon copies" of our parents so to speak...With anything Heart failure, Hypertension, Mental Illness, etc.

its important to study genetics becuz you can figure out child's possible characters such as eye colour ... hair colour .. height .. etc ..
also its important to figure out to make sure the child doesnt have any inherited diseases or any gene disorders .. and if they do .. the doctors would know and would try to help as fast as possible ....
thats all i can think of right now .. :D
take care

The biggest reason I can think of off the top of my head is because of genetic medical problems. Knowing where the child comes from is important piece of child development from both a physician's or a teacher's standpoint.

1. If developmental delay ,may need to rule out that isn't from genetic disease.
2. I has genetic disease, would need to know how effects development and how treatment may differ if not genetic
3. Parents need this information re decision to have for children
