How can a stay-at-home mom with a bad knee and no child care options for a 1 year old get back in shape?

How can a stay-at-home mom with a bad knee and no child care options for a 1 year old get back in shape?

I myself find walking to be an excellent way to stay in shape. It will be better for your knees than running. And the child can come with you in his/her stroller. In fact, pushing the stroller may even help burn extra calories. Believe it or not, mowing the lawn with a push mower can also help you stay in shape. Just make sure you keep your child within your eyesight. Push-ups and sit-ups can be done anywhere in your home, and will help tone your arms and abdominal muscles. Again, your child can be right there near you when you do them.

Do fun stuff with ur child like playing in the park or going swimming

swimming at the local community center pool is excellent low impact exercise and also child care might be available

Swimming is an excellent exercise for anyone with orthopedic problems and kids. If you're able to flex your knee at all, try riding a bike too with baby-on-board. Simply walking with the stroller with help both of you. Get involved with any church group that has a "mother's day out" and take baby and take a break yourself from motherhood. On that day, pamper yourself with a nice hot bubble bath, soaking that knee; or doing manicures/pedicures and facials with other women. I think if you get involved with other mothers, you will be more inclined to get back to where you want to be. Good luck to you!

Teach your baby to lay on his/her back and do the bicycle excercise - not only a great excercise, but strengthens the knee. Do things that are fun for both of you. Play catch in the yard with a soft ball, ring around the rosie, go swimming (also less stress on the knee) etc. You don't have to spend a lot of money or hire a sitter for those kinds of things. And baby will certainly have a great time with mom.

Some local gyms (like YMCA) provide child care while you work out. I know a gym that also offered a "Mommy and Me" yoga class that is good for stretching and improving injuries, plus bonding time with your kid.
The gym is a good place to start too because they have trainers that can show you different exercises to avoid further injuring your knee and even helping it get stronger.
Swimming is also great for fitness and kids LOVE it.
You have TONS of options!!!
