Which is worse for you -- smoking cigarettes or chewing tobacco? |
I'd classify myself as a casual smoker and am working on the quitting forever process. I was having a debate with a friend as to which is worse -- smoking or chewing tobacco? Not that I'm looking to start chewing (I never would touch that stuff), I was just curious as to which is worse. Smoking is worse for your health but chewing tobacco doesn't do your health any favors either. Mouth cancer is a nasty and disfiguring cancer to have. both really probably smoking since you inhale all that smoke Both are bad for your health This is a tough one. Would you rather have lung cancer or oral cancer? Don't ask stupid questions. I think chewing tobacco is gross!!!!! What kind of cancer is preferable for you -- mouth and tongue or esophagal and lung?? Your choice..... both have detrimental effects to your health but in different ways. In short, with smoking, you'll more likely to develop lung cancer. WIth chewing, you'll more likely to get oral cancer. The underlying reason is that the chemicals in tobacco are absorbed in your body either way. One is as bad as the other. Chewing tobacco can cause oral cancers. I do not think you want to lose your tongue or part of your face. Which is worse for you, ask yourself which form of cancer would you like....I had a friend I worked with who chewed tobacco for eight years...one morning he woke up with his jaw hurting and a toothache.....his jaw was all infected to the bone with tobacco and a tooth had to be extracted....bill was about $7500 for all the oral surgeon and dental work.......smoking will send you to the open heart lab in the hospital.........if you dont have insurance the operation and hospital stay will be about $120,000......so pick your poison.... Oh definitely chewing. There is nothing attractive about spitting in a can and seeing all that tobacco in a man's mouth. |
