Has anyone had cervical spine surgery on c1& c2 & bone fusing the vertebrae together or know someone who has?

I'm having the surgery on July 14th,2006 and I'm very nervious!!! What is the recovery time??? Please help...

My friend Ruth has had this surgery, she is in her 80ties She chose the fusion and now can not raise her hands overhead, she does not mind not being able to hang curtains, and has no pain . I am not certain about the recovery time ? However I know that she is very happy with the surgery that was done .
