Is any form of cerebral palsy hereditary?

I am 26 yrs old with cerebral palsy, when i was 5 yrs old and attending a special school there were two brothers with the same condition so i was just wondering weather a form of hereditary cerebral palsy exists and how its transmitted to ones child

No, it is not hereditary. If the brothers were twins then it is possible since twins are often premature which can cause brain damage. Or, if they really had some other condition other that CP an were just misdiagnosed. My daughter was believed to have CP but turned out to be something else that is genetic.

Initially cerebral palsy was thought to be related to trauma and strangulation during birth (birth asphyxia), which leads to lack of oxygen to the brain), but in a study of 45,000 births it was shown that birth asphyxia is an uncommon cause of cerebral palsy. (MedlinePlus)
Cerebral palsy can occur during pregnancy (about 75 percent), during childbirth (about 5 percent) or after birth (about 15 percent). Eighty percent of causes are unknown; for the small number where cause is known this can include infection, malnutrition, and/or significant head trauma in very early childhood. (Wikipedia)

no cerebral palsy is not hereditary. there are so many reasons which may cause to cerebral palsy.

I am not a doctor. I have CP too, however, and work with other people that do too. CP is not hereditary. There are genetic disorders that cause disabilities that mimic CP. But CP is caused by one of 2 things: brain injury or the sheaths over the nerves of the body not growing properly due to premature birth. The second reason has just been discovered (according to the wellness nurse at my office), so I don't know how much information you will find on it.

If you're wanting to have a baby, you might want to get tested to see if what you have is a genetic issue and not real CP. This is a really rare condition, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. But I do understand the concern because I would be terrified that my child would have CP. But I have friends with CP that have totally normal children. You best bet is to talk to a neurologist. He or she would probably be able to give you the most information.

Hope this helped.
