Why does my mrsa keep returning as cellulitis? I am in perfect health however I work in a hospital.? |
10 months ago I came down with a case of cellulitis in my right leg. A week later I developed an abscess that was lanced and cultured positive for mrsa. It was about 1 to 1.5 inches deep. In 10 months, the cellulitis has reoccured 4 times in the same place. My daughter and my bird have also had + mrsa cultures. We are using bactroban, bleach and hibicleanse. I have been on countless antibiotics over these 10 months, some work some don't. I recently had a blood culture with gram positive stains in the preliminary report however no growth after 5 days and a negative bone scan. The doctors can not culture the cellulitis and the abcess comes days later. The cellulitis is so agressive. It grows about 1/4 to 1/2 inch pre hour. If i wait untill the abscess comes it may be too late. I have difficulty convincing the doctors that it is mrsa because it presents different than typical cases. I need help getting adequate treatment next time. Any good articles for non-typical mrsa presentations? The New Silver Solution It sounds like you need to see an infectious disease doctor. Bactroban and hibiclens is not going to get rid of a MRSA infection. (if your wound is cultured- the doctor will know if it is or is not MRSA for sure) You will probably need some major antibiotics. And, also, can I say, that if you are working in a hospital around any patient care area, that you need to make sure that area is completely covered at all times. I wonder if you should even work around patient care areas with an infection like that. MRSA is becomming more and more common and difficult to treat. It spreads like wildfire in patients who are immuno compromised and already sick or have open wounds etc. I suggest going to a infectious disease specialist, and getting this taken care of the right way. 10 months is a looong time to be playing around with something like this. |
