Celiac disease/gluten-containing foods?

I've seen a lot of resources online regarding obtaining gluten-free products, but are there any lists of foods that DO contain gluten? Preferrably by brand-name...not just generic foods. I've only found one list, but it contained just ingredients that are known to have gluten in them, i.e. soy sauce. I was hoping for a more complete list. I'm new at this Celiac Disease business... :-(

Hi! I hope I can help!!

First off, welcome, you are not alone! Count your blessings you were diagnosed and on your way tohealth!!
First if you havent, check these books out at the library:
Celiac Disease A Hidden Epidemic by Dr Peter Green
and the Danna Korn books (she has several).
Bette Hagman has several great cookbooks. But I usually jsut cook like i did pre-gluten free and substituet GF stuff when I need it!

Go to www.celiac.com and search "Safe and Forbidden Foods". You will find a safe list of gf foods and a forbidden list of alternate names for gluten that you will need toprint, carry and memorize. Dont worry, over time you will be scanning those labels in a heart beat and knowing what has gluten!!

Join the Yahoo Health Group SillyYaks, tons of resources, help, recpies, etc. We even held our own voting on best GF products, u can search the archives there or post asking Joy for help. She led the voting system.

Thanks tot he new food labeling laws finding things that contian gluten are a tad easier. Labels must clearly state wheat so if u can't find a warning on wheat or it anywhere in the ingredients, keep reading bc it may contain oats, rye or barley (or an alternative name for one of them) but chances are good it might be GF.

There are tons of yumy GF foods, if you need any, let me know. I"ll list a few I love in the links.

Its really hard to tell you what brands contain gluten bc unfortunatley A LOT of stuff has gluten and there are thousands of brand names and their formulas are constantly changing. I do know Kraft, Walmart and Progresso say if they product contains a gluten igredient it will clearly be stated (but u might need to learn all the altertive names ont hat forbidden list.) I.E. Kraft says all vinegar is GF bc its distilled UNLESS they say its undistilled.

You are not alone and there are tons of resources!! Search the links i post and absoultely feel free to email me for more help! (going out of town tomorrow but I willg et back to you ASAP on return!)

Best of luck,
Amy
