Do I have Celiac Disease?

I was wondering if I have Celiac Disease. For my entire life (15 years) I have battled with horrible, horrible canker sores. I DID have hand foot & mouth disease & fifth disease when I was younger. However, after I eat, I get migraines. My mom thinks I have a food allergy-->I get extremely hyper after eating and then crash drastically with a headache. Sometimes I have bad stomach problems for no apparent reason. I used to get absolutley horrrrible cramps and then be in the bathroom for hours.

Does this sound like Celiac?

Maybe. But, the test for celiac is just a simple blood test. Get it checked to find out for sure.

Possibly, there are so many symptoms of the disease.
My symptoms have never been like what you describe, but I know other celiacs that have described somewhat similar symptoms. The best thing to do is to go to a Dr and get checked out. They probably will run a blood test to look for gluten antibodies (not the real term).

Good luck and I hope you feel better!

I had horrible migraines that lasted me up to 21 days, I had done 2 MRI in my head looking for the possible cause of it and I have taken all OTC medications for migraines and I have tried more than a dozen of others that my doctor thought it would help, even shots when the pain was too much to endore. One day a lady who worked in a Health Store told me that my problem was food allergies. I thought she was wrong, but I had tried everything and nothing worked for me. I did a Detox diet for a week and then I started trying different foods proven to be the cause of many food allergies, and my main problem is sugar, sugary products and almost any kind of refined sugar and preservatives found in pop and sweets. So after that I reduced my sugar intake and my migraines are all gone, when I have one is because I ate something I shouldn't usually Rocky-Road ice cream. It seems to me that you have some kind of food allergy and it can be Celiac disease too. Go and see a doctor, ask to be tested to see if that is your problem. I found a web site that explains about celiac disease and it has a lot of good information. Please seek help, you are too young to be having so much pain.
I hope you get better soon. I wish you the best. Do not take to long, find a doctor and seek treatment soon. =)

Its possible bc the symptoms of Celiac are different for nearly everyone with it.

The way to find out is to see your pediatrcian who can order the blood test (you MUST be eatign gluten before the test so do NOT start a gluten free diet before hand!). To find out EXACTLY what the doc needs to test for go to www.csaceliacs.org and click "Diagnosing" (up top near the top of the page) and it will tell u all the antibodies they need to test for.

After the blood test, usually an endoscopy is done. IF you get a negative blood test, u may still want to see a GI doc bc many Celiacs always test neg for Celiac bc they do not carry the antibody usually tested for. So if u still feel u may have Celiac, u can request the endoscopy with biopsy. To find a good doc in your area go to www.csaceliacs.org. Click Local Support and see if u have a support group in your area and see if they can reccommend a good GI doc.

Good luck!!
Feel free to email me with further questions.

The canker sores are an indication that you have celiac or just gluten intolerance. I gave up gluten about 5 years ago and hardly ever have a canker sore now and had them almost continuously. Celiac disease can cause a strange array of symptoms so the best thing to do is get the blood test and if indicated, have a sample taken of your small intestine. Read the book, Celiac Disease, A Hidden Epidemic

It's possible. There are several symptoms for celiac. The only way to officially diagnose celiac is to have an endoscopy and let them take a sample of the tissue in your small intestine for biopsy. An easier way to tell though is just to eliminate gluten completely for several weeks/months and see if your symptoms go away. If they do, there's a good chance you have celiac and you should just stick to a gluten free diet. If they don't improve at least a little, there's some other problem.
