What all can Celiac Disease cause?

I've had Celiac disease for about 3 years and my doctor said I could try eating gluten again. When I started eating it my eyes became red and swollen, and I just kinda seem to hurt all over. Does anyone know if it's from eating gluten or not?

Run, do not walk, to the phone and find another doctor!! If you have Celiac Disease, it is a LIFELONG INCURABLE disease! BUT it is not a scary disease to have! The only thing you have to do is NOT eat gluten! Now if you have an allergy to gluten, that is different, some ppl can 'outgrow' allergies but to be sure you'd need to see an allergist and if u are truly allergic to wheat or gluten you must be VERY careful not to eat it without supervision bc if u are truly allergic you could go into anaphalytic shock.

NO doctor worth their salt who understands CD should EVER tell a patient to eat gluten again! That is old schooll thikning when doc thought CD was rare and only a childhood disease. NOT SO! It is an extremely common autoimmune disease affecting 1 in 133 ppl! That is a lot of ppl! And it is LIFELONG! Certainly your symtpoms can lessen but most ppl with CD find that once they go gluten free, if they eat just a tiny bit it effects them much worse than before.

PLEASE see the links below for more info and to make sure you have the proper diagnosis. Please feel free to email me if you need any further help!

Note: Not to step on any toes but the post about Celiac Disease being the inability to process sugar in milk is dead wrong!! That is not even the correct description of lactose intolerance. Gluten Free has NOTHINg to do with Milk. I believe you might be referring to CASEIN a protein in milk prodcuts that many ppl with Celiac avoid but once their body heals from the gluten free diet( whichi s lifelong!) they can again eat caesin. Many families with autistic children do not eat gluten or casein bc it seems to help the symptoms of autism. MILK has nothing to do with Gluten Free or Celiac Disease. If anyone has any questions I will gladly answer them. I hate to see ppl misinformed on CD.

Celiac sprue is an immunologically mediated disease in genetically susceptible individuals caused by intolerance to gluten, resulting in mucosal inflammation, which causes malabsorption. Symptoms usually include diarrhea and abdominal discomfort. Diagnosis is by small-bowel biopsies demonstrating characteristic though not specific pathologic changes of villous atrophy that improve with a strict gluten-free diet.
Please see the web pages for more details on Celiac disease-sprue.

celiac syndrome is linked to an inability of the body to tolerate the sugar of milk.not all cases are the same and there are a range of symptoms, from mild stomach discomfort to severe and debilitating ones.My eldest son was diagnosed as having celiac syndrome and had to go on a gluten free diet ,or as free as he could get.that was thirty years ago and seems to be far less of a problem now.he drinks beer eats kebabs and generally has a good time with no apparent problems.just watch your diet and try a little bit of something now and then to see if you are improving with time.
