Seeking information on elevated amylase levels, relating to celiac disease?

recently i have had stabbing pain in my abdomen, and lower right pelvic (made me think it was female trouble) area and urgency to get to the bathroom. nausea after eating, tired, burning eyes, heartburn feeling that is actually in my back and symptoms that i can relate to celiac disease such as sore knees & joints. i had quit wheat felt better, started again from bread, pizza & cookies then recently have been feeling worse with symptoms described.

today i found out that the amylase level is high from a blood test. I had thought i had a female trouble - went to the obgyn who had me do an ultrasound - still waiting on results there - but tech told me that everything looked normal to her. going to go to my primary care doctor, and ask to be tested for celiac to find out about that for sure rather than continuing to speculate about a wheat allergy. Anyone out there who is celiac and has had such symptoms- particularly the lower pelvic pain? trying 2 figure this out & not be afraid.

Amylase is an enzyme put out by the pancreas and the pancreas reacts to what is going on in the intestine to secrete amylase. So either the connection is messed up or your pancreas is in overdrive and secreting too much amylase. Get tested for celiac (you have to be eating gluten or the test won't be accurate) and also need to get your pancreas and liver functions checked out. If you have been diagnosed with celiac disease, then you need to stay on the gluten free diet and not slip up and only eat the bread pizza and cookies that are gluten free-- yes there are very good substitutes. Just because the symptoms go away on a gluten free diet, doesn't mean that you can quit eating gluten free.

I would say to go ahead and get tested for Celiac, however sailor is right, you need to be eating gluten for at elast 2-8 weeks BEFORE the blood work for the test to be right. And even then, blood work can be negative due to several reasons:
1. U do not possess the antibodies they look for
2. lab error
3. doc error
4. patient not eating enough gluten.

I would ask for the celiac test, but know it should prob be about 2 mos of CONTINUALLY eating gluten for the test ot be right. If u are unwilling ot eat that much gluten (I can sympathize!) u can do at home genetic testing. www.enterolab.com is one company. Im currently awaint resutls on my son from them.

Female trouble is VERY common with untreated CD, including cysts, infertility and menstral problems. Eye problems, even dental problems can be related tou ndiagnosed celiac.

I wouldnt be afraid or worry to much, if it is Celiac, its a rather good diagnosis! No meds, no surgeries, jsut simply eat gluten free for life!! And there are TONS of GOOD gf foods out there!!
Feel free to email me for more help!
