You need to see the dentist and they will decide what they feel is the best treatment for you. If your 6 month checkup is soon you can wait and just ask them then but if you just had your 6 month checkup not long ago then get an appointment now. go to the dentist and he will tell you Go see a dentist. Its best to see a dentist as soon as possible. The longer you wait the more treatment you will need. Depending on the size, damage of the cavity you may just need fillings. Don't wait to long though before seeing a dentist because then fillings wont be able to help and you will need a root canal, which aren't bad just a lot more expensive then fillings. You most definitely need to go to your dentist, because untreated cavities can become extremely serious. Since you are 13, you should go to your parent/guardian and make aware this problem to them. You'll need to get them filled- the dentist drills away the decayed part of your tooth, leaving a hole. Then he/she fills the hole with either silver or white fillings to restore your tooth structure. If the large cavity is too large to be filled, the dentist may need to pull that tooth, or perform a root canal, which is when the dentist takes the nerve out. Untreated cavities could result in toothaches, pain, and bumps on your gum filled with bacteria called abcesses. Get that checked out ASAP. |
