My 14 month old has a cataract.?

About 2 months ago, we found out that my son who is 14 months old has a cataract on his right eye. We saw a pediatric opthamologist whom decided surgery would not be the best option at this point. He gave my baby a pair of glasses to wear with a very powerful lense over the eye with the cataract and a plain lense over his good eye. My question is how can glasses help my son see through a cataract. I am thinking that the best thing to do would be to remove the cataract then give him glasses if his vision needs to be corrected. If anyone knows anything about this please help me ease my mind. I am worried if he wears the glasses and they are too strong if will ruin what eyesite he does have in that eye...?????

Another thought is have himchecked out for various diseases. there are a few childhood diseases that causes cataracts...such as lipid storage diseases and various amino acid diseases that treated might help reverse, or decrease the progression of the process....good luck

Surgery for cataract removal in a 14 month child is a specialized procedure with results that take time to manifest.
Possibility of second surgery will also be there.
Please follow the advise of your consultant as he is the best person to judge the need and time of surgery for your child.
I hope he has good vision after treatment Best of Luck!
