Is it cataract when an aging person's iris turns pale?

A friend of the family aged 55ish has dark brown eyes and has a pale white fog around the edge of her iris . . . . she doesn't want to see a doctor, is this cataract or is it normal?

That is what I have seen on many of the older people in my family then they had cataracts surgery and it was gone.

That could be a cataract. It shows up as a white cloudy spot on the eye.
