Does a cataract operation hurt? |
how long does it take and is it painful .i am due for a cataract op but i am so scared Don't be scared. My Mum had her's done last year. You are awake but can't feel anything and only see a bright light above you. The doctor talks to you all the time. my bfs gran has been for one operation and is having another soon...she says it doesnt hurt and takes around 15mins. they administer several drops to presumably numb the eye and they then give and injection in the eye- not sure if its the actual eye- which vi says doesnt hurt! then they remove it and you can go home. even if it was painful im sure it doesnt compare to childbirth!!!!! yes but its mild you can endure the pain. its like the bite of a small ant. Rest assure surgery has leaped galaxies since the time they used to bang you on the head before any operation. Even if you are being operated by methods used 20 years ago the pain is bearable and relieved by simple painkiller tablets. Cataract surgery these days are minimum painful if someone at all feels it. No it doesn't i had one when i was 5 and got to watch the whole operation after as it was vidoed because at the time i was the youngest person in the world to have it done, it was amazing, you'll probably have to wear a patch for a while but hey get a black one and play pirates for a while heehee that'll make the time fun and pass easier......good luck and i know everything will be great........ my nephew was born with it in both eyes.he had the operation at 3 years old.he was fine and didnt seem to be in pain.good luck and dont worry,im sure you'll be fine If its laser surgery,no more than a half hour per eye.No pain at all, absolutly none. No, it doesn't. You will be given an IV and that is probably the most pain you will have. You may also be given some Versed, that will help you relax, and you will probably feel like you've slept through most of the surgery. You must keep your head perfectly still, which is why you will be given a mild anesthesia. Remember to use your follow up drops faithfully, to prevent infection and speed healing. You will be delighted with your "new vision." Good luck. |
