Please help, i have a cataract, and i am scared of hospitals?

can anyone tell me the procedure for a cataract operation

Margaret, I've had both done and there is nothing to it , in and out and the staff are usually very protective to you if they see your apprehensive usually they have music playing and your laid on the couch feeling nice and comfortable while the doctor is talking to you most of the time, a nurse will hold your hand if you wish them to so stop worrying. when its all over you immediately see so much more clearly good luck lovey

Hearing the details will probably only frighten you more. You just need to go and get it over with. Trust me, the anticipation is ALWAYS the worst part. Just quit agonizing and go see the doctor. Best of luck.

Fast procedure. You are in and out in less than 90 minutes. You can even drive after the surgery.

It is the easiest thing you have ever done. They wheel you to the operating room where an anesthetist gives you a mixture of Demoral and a tranquilizing drug. Next thing you know you are back in your room with an eye patch. No pain afterwards.

I had one. The worst part was getting the IV put in. no pain and i could see after it. Wish i had it done sooner. no pain, trust me!!

Great advances have been made in cataract surgery. Millions of people undergo this vision-improving procedure every year. And, they experience excellent results.

For patients, it's a simple operation. A tiny incision is made in the eye. Through this incision, the surgeon inserts an instrument, about the size of a pen tip. The surgeon may select to use either an AquaLase庐 * device, which uses gentle pulses of liquid to wash away your cloudy lens, or an ultrasonic instrument that breaks up and gently removes your cloudy lens.

Once the clouded lens has been removed, the next step is to replace it. That is, to implant an artificial lens that will do the work of your own lens. This artificial lens is referred to as an intraocular lens or IOL.

Cataract surgery is an outpatient procedure. You'll spend just a few hours at the site. Because your eyes will be treated with anesthetic, you should feel little to no discomfort.

After the surgery, you'll be given a short time to rest. Then, YOU GO HOME ON THE SAME DAY. Within the next 24 hours, your doctor will probably want to see you for an evaluation. Drops will be prescribed to guard against infection and help your eyes heal. For a few days, you may need to wear a clear shield, especially at night, to prevent you from rubbing your eye.

Do not fear! It is a highly successful surgery! I pray for your peace, dear one.

Cataract operations are done in doctors clinics and as outpatient hospital operations...
You are right to be scared of hospitals..
Hospitals are dangerous places...
Have courage and get it done...

I was going to give you all the business about not being afraid of hospitals etc, assuming that you'd get the usual silly load of answers - BUT, I'm delighted to see that every one has given you the sort of answers that this site is supposed to be for, and I thoroughly endorse everything that has been said so far, and congratulate all of the respondents for such lovely answers.
Have your op as soon as you can - you'll wonder why you ever worried after it's all over. Best wishes to you. Eb#

don't worry it's routine and very simple procedure
