Title:has anyone had their cataract operation and still had starbursting how do you cope with it?

Hi

when i was waiting to see my eye doctor i was chatting to other people who had their cataract done, and all of them had said everything had improved

i just dont see how i can cope with my bad starbursting for the rest of my life im 30

this now means i cant drive at night because of the starbursting, ive seen two doctors both said there is nothing that can be done as my eye is in good condition.

ive seen some pinhole glasses that might help with starbursting

does anyone have any advice for me

I'm sorry to hear about your bad outcome. I did a little searching, and I found a journal article about someone with similar symptoms to yours:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez...

In this case, the hole that was made in the front of the lens capsule (the capsulorhexis) was not properly centered (eccentric). This may or may not be your problem. This patient tried drugs that induced constriction of his pupil; it didn't work for him, but you could give that a shot. The doctors offered to switch his implanted lens (IOL) with a different one, but the patient refused the surgery. This may or may not have helped him (he had a 'square-edged IOL', which may have caused the problem.)

If this happens to be your problem, I would say that you should see an ophthalmologist (again) and ask about miotic therapy and possible IOL exchange. IOL exchange would involve a surgery and would have all the same risks as your original surgery. However, if you find that you cannot live like this, you just need to keep bugging the doctors until something happens. You have to decide how bad it is; the doctors can't know what you are seeing. If the doctors see that your vision can correct to 20/20, then they might be reluctant to operate.

Again, I know it sucks, but if it bothers you, you should keep bothering them. I had a medical problem that severly impacted my quality of life - I would not do many things that I enjoyed because of it. I went to doctors for years, and became discouraged when they kept telling me there was nothing they could do - they said there was nothing wrong with me. Finally, I asked one more doctor years later (at a visit about something else) - I now take a pill daily that has almost eliminated my problem and only costs $4 a month.

Please, if you have any more problems or find out more about what the doctors have said, please email me.

I had my first cataract operation done on 3rd August and have to have other one done on 28th September. I am still star bursting from the first one but the consultant and optician both have said that when the other is done this will stop. I hope they are correct as I cannot drive at night either. How long is it since you had your operation? The eye is still swollen inside for quite a long time but I am assured it will settle down. I will let you know after I have had the other done, but I have to say that my sight is quite phenomenal since I have worn glasses since 14 and I am now 59 and can see with left eye - perfect even though it star bursts - it is worse in bright sunlight. I was told by consultant to wear light sun glasses. Have you tried that?
