What are typical affects of cataract surgery?

My dad just had cataract surgery done in one eye, the other is scheduled next week. His eye is still blood shot and blurred vision almost a week later.

What is concerning us is the fact that when he see's bright lights (car lights, street lights) he says its like seeing fireworks or a ferris wheel the way the vision is......

Are these typical affects? Should he be worried? Will it wear off?

The affects of the light are in the eye he had surgery on....also notices a halo around headlights....he's only 50.

I wanted to research this more before he goes in for the second operation

I had my right eye done 7 weeks ago, my sight has been quite variable since, they say it takes between 2-6 weeks to heal, I have had blurred vision but nothing as dramatic as you describe, he should definitely mention it to the centre who performed the procedure, they will either reassure him all is well or else try to correct any possible concerns.

Have a look at this

I was to have cataract surgery the beginning of Nov. but got the flu, etc. and it was cancelled. I am rescheduled for the 4th of Dec. From what I have learned from friends who had this surgery, your Dad should really see his Dr. There could be a problem. It needs to be seen to for everyones peace of mind. Best of everything to your Dad and hope he is alright.

Sensitivity to light and blurred vision from swelling is common after cataract surgery. But flashes of lights can be a serious problem that he should see the dr. for.
Healing does take about 6 weeks and the blurring can continue for several weeks.
Make sure your dad putting the eye drops in a prescribed by the Doctor. They prevent infection but Some of the drops are to control the pressure in the eye - -
Remember no rubbing at it or lifting heavy items
I would talk to the dr if the light flashes cont or if he is having pain.
Good Luck

You need an optomalogist to answer your questions because to me they sound serious,So you should bring your father back to the specialist and see what is best to be treated for your father. Then the doctor will reshedule the other sugery if necessary.Do not hesitate and do not delay going back to the doctor. Heed my advice.
