Should I get rid of the cats that may have given my husband cat-scratch disease?

My husband recently had what we thought to be a tumor removed. Turns out it was something called necrotizing granuloma, likely (but not certainly) caused by cat-scratch disease. Now he wants to get rid of the cats, for the sake of our kids, who are both under 3 years old. Is this a reasonable request? Medically informed answers VERY welcome here. And yes, we will talk to the doctor more about it but we were just told this about an hour ago before we knew it may be cat-scratch disease and I just want some thoughts before we go see a specialist doctor.

I wouldn't get rid of the cats. This illness is NOT common but does happen. Have your cats had all their inoculations? Provided everyone including the cats are up to date on their shots you should be OK. Have the cats been neutered/spayed? That can affect the cats behavior. You must always be careful with a child around any animal anyway. An animal may react negatively to a child pulling on their fur etc. Just be careful and enjoy the whole family!!

Cat-scratch fever???

you know what they say...

if you lie with the dog's (cat's in this instance) your bound to get fleas (or cat-scratch fever)

Hope that answered your question but if it didn't then i don't know what you want ;)

Personally , cats would be gone.

Reason 1- husband is susceptible,
Reason 2-Children have similar gene make up so one if not both could be susceptible

When comes to family all others take back seat.

When he was scratched, did he wash the area and put antibiotic on it? Most men don't. I wouldn't get rid of the cats but would monitor them around the kids and make sure any scratches are cared for immediately. I would also speak with your vet about it.

Nope. It doesn't spread from person to person; in natural settings it's only acquired through the scratch or bite of an infected animal.
