Can I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome without having any of the symptoms but the pain? |
My left hand hurts from the base of the thumb and forefinger to the wrist. I looked up Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (which I was told it could be) and I don't have any of the symptoms or warning signs that the site said. A few of those included numbness and tingling the night before, and then waking up with the pain there or something like that. Anyway, I haven't had any symptoms or warnings at all, it just started hurting the other day. Could it still be Carpal Tunnel? When I type, it hurts the most. I do ALOT of typing, working and spending a ton of time on the computer, so ... yeah. Eep. It sounds like you could possibly in the early stages of CTS. My sister just had Carpal Tunnel surgery at the age of 26, and the sad thing is it could of been prevented. You should first go see a doctor and then address what may be causing the discomfort. One of the best ways to prevent/control CTS is with an articulating keyboard tray with a mousing platform. Check out Dr Alan Hedges website (http://ergo.human.cornell.edu/) and send him an e-mail. He will actually take the time and respond. I had carpal tunnel syndrome and the most obvious symptom is numbness/tingling at night. You could have muscle or nerve damage causing the pain. I'd talk to the doc about it. They can do a test called an EMG to determine if you have carpal tunnel syndrome, and if there is any damage. along with the keyboard and mouse upgrade, you could also try a wrist splint that can be purchase at any drug store, just for that reason. I had this problem when I was working 10 hrs a day at a computer. I used the brace and noticed that the pain was greatly reduced. You may just have the early stages of it, and as the man said before, it can easily be prevented. If after trying all these things and you are still experiencing the pain, I would get to a doctor. Yes, it's possible to have carpal Tunnel without any of the other symptoms. I've had it for years, and the only thing that helps is resting it and wearing a brace when it hurts the worst. |
