What can I do to ease the pain of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Does anyone here have Carpal Tunnel? If so, how do you soothe the pain? Any tricks? I'm pretty sure that I have it although I haven't been officially diagnosed. I get shooting pain of my left arm and I have a brace (sometimes I wrap my arm in a sort of gauze tape and that helps)

Thanks!

There are exercises that can help.

*Hold one arm out straight with your palm down. Use the other hand to grab the fingers and gently bend the wrist down. Feel the stretch in the forearm and hold for 30 seconds. Switch arms and repeat. Then hold the first arm out straight again, palm up. With the other hand, grab the fingers and gently bend the wrist down. Feel the stretch in the forearm and hold for 30 seconds. Switch arms and repeat.

*Squeeze a racquetball or tennis ball 30-100 times in each hand. (I like to use those squishy balls that are usually give out free by businesses at health fairs, etc. ... I have one that's a globe and one that's a heart, and one from the Navy in navy blue with yellow "stitching" like a baseball. They are easier to squeeze!)

For a slightly different version of these exercises and others, as well as more information on carpal tunnel, go to lifespan.org/ Click on Search in the gray bar under the head, and on the page that comes up, type "Carpal tunnel exercises" in the box and hit the Search button. Exercises are about the third link down.

A product that I've used that helps ease pain for several hours at a time is Soothanol X2. It's a multiple-ingredient natural oil that takes just 2-4 drops. It feels warm and soothing. It has a scent that I find appealing, though some might find it "medicinal." It is available online through HSI (Health Sciences Institute). It's not cheap - one little bottle for $29.95+$4.95 s/h ... but it goes a very long ways! And larger quantities are sold at discount, with free shipping if you buy 6 bottles or more at a time. It seems to work for some people, but not for others. My husband and I find it gives us some relief, but it does nothing for my Mother.

At any rate, good luck. I hope you can find something to help. I never felt like the braces did me much good. I had better luck with the exercises and the oil.

Prevent and/or ease carpel tunnel by regularly switching the mouse to the other side/hand. Report It

According to what my doctor told me, take the recommended dosage of ibuprofen (to decrease inflammation), ice for a couple hours, and wear your brace for about a week to keep immobile.

have you tried using splints on your hands or try this tip put a icecube between your thumb and forefinger and the pain will go -

DONT THINK IM CRAZY BUT BUY PREPORATION H IT IS AN ANTIIMFLAMAORY OINTMENT IF IT CURE HEMOROIDS IMAGINE WHAT IT CAN DO TO YOURE HAND.

You should set up your desk to be more ergonomic (link below). If this is work related you can also see a physical therapist--this should be covered under worker's comp.

Also, if the pain is mostly in your mousing hand, try switching the mouse to the other side. (Especially if you normally use your right hand for the mouse and have a keyboard with a number pad. The number pad forces you to use the mouse further to the right than is ergonomic.)

You can treat the pain, but until you fix the source of the injury, the pain won't go away entirely.

I have not been diagnosed with C. T., but I'm certain that I have it, at least to a degree. I wake up sometimes with two numb hands. It sucks. But once I shake them and then do stretches, the feeling comes back. (Not at great way to start the a.m., but it happens). You can do hand stretches-put your palms together, in front of you and press gently, then flip them over (so that the backs of your hands are touching) and again, gently press. Do both of those at least a few times and hold for a count of 15-20 seconds. You can also rotate each of your wrists, one direction, then another, and that should help. I also use the thumb of one hand, to massage the inner wrist of the other hand. That works quite nicely. Also, I'd suggest reading up on ergonomics. If you're on a keyboard frequently (and who isn't, these days), make sure you that have a wrist rest, that your wrists and hands aren't bent at an angle and that your arms are always bent at a 90-degree angle from your body (meaning that your wrists and elbows should be in a straight line, one neither higher no lower than the other). Hope that helps. I feel your pain (literally).
