Anyone here a caregiver for someone with Alzheimer.?

Is weight loss common with that too? My husband eats all the time but he is losing weight.

I can assure you that if you're husband is eating well, he should not be losing weight, Alzheimer's or not. There could be many reasons, but the only way to find out is to take him to the doctor.

I had an uncle who had Alzheimers. He lost a lot of weight near the end, but he didn't eat well. If your husband is not in the advanced stages, I'd mention it to a doctor.

I used to care for alzheimer patients in a nursing home but it has been a while

I do not remember that being a symptom

I would look up the 24 hour nurse line in the phone book it will be listed under your local hospital
It is free and you will talk with a registered nurse who can give you advise or tell you if she feels it is something a doctor may need to check

good luck and God Bless

I was the sole caregiver of my mother-in-law who also had Altzheimer's. Do you see him eat, or is he telling you he eats? They will say anything that they think you want to hear. If you are seeing him eat, and he is losing weight, then you do need to contact his doctor. My m-i-l lost weight, but it was toward the end, she had no appetite. Good luck to you.

Yes, they finally get to an advanced stage where weight loss is common, because they loose their appetite. My mother and father in their later years developed Alzheimer's after suffering from multiple strokes. They will eat less and less, until they have no craving for solid food, and then need a liquid supplement. It is a sad thing to watch happen, but their is not much you can do unfortunately. If you are the caregiver, make sure you get a break once in a while, and take care of yourself, or your health will suffer too!
