My job is as a caregiver. One of the clients has MRSA.What is my job required to do to protect staff?

The facility I work at is NOT a medical facility. The clients are integrated in the community, living in regular apartments. The only difference is they require 24 hour supervision, which is where our staff come in. I am in a supervisory position, and have become uncomfortable with what is going on. We had a pregnant staff member assigned to the client who has MRSA's apartment. She was not notified of the client's diagnosis, and I know there are no universal infection control precautions being in place. What SHOULD be going on??

*The MRSA is from a wound.

I think you need to be going to your boss with this, another manager, a lawyer (for the lawsuit that pregnant woman is going to hit you with)....

You're dealing with a staph infection and a pregnant woman and no policy in place???? Good Luck

The best thing you can do is inform your staff members of the infection & tell them simple things they can do to protect themselves (such as good handwashing).

Since the MRSA is from the wound the precautions are different. Good handwashing is a must whenever your staff is assigned to the patient. If they must come in contact with the wound or any clothing/fabric that may have drainage from the wound on it, then have them wear gloves & dispose of the gloves after each use.

I hope this helps!
