I am my husbands caregiver. He has lung cancer, extensive stage. Can I get paid thru the state for this?of coarse you can go to your nearest dhss office If you are here in the U.S., then no you can't get paid for taking care of him. I have worked in private duty home care as a supervisor and dealt with this issue before. Sometimes there is a nurse or CNA in a persons' family that wants to be paid to take care of their sick loved one. The insurance companies and Medicaid have strict rules against that.
I always found it a sad, because it makes things so financially difficult for the family when things are already stressed due to illness. The best advice I have is to see what assistance your husband can get (like disability, green stamps, etc..) that will help the whole family. Department of Human Services will be able to tell you what he may qualify for. You may also want to contact a home care agency to see if they can get your husband a visiting nurse and some CNA's that can come in to help relieve some stress on you. |
