HEALTH CARE Careers?

Both of my parents are doctors and lots of family members are. I want to do *something* in healthcare as well (I'm good at it). I was going to go overseas to the same college my parents went to however I thought I watned to do dentistry instead and stayed in the USA. Now that I shadowed a dentist for 4 hrs the other day, not sure if I want to get into that, anesthiology looks pretty cool. Should I go for the MD degree (same amt of time it would take me to finish undergrad & dental) & come back to the USA and do a residency instead?? That would give me more options than dentistry right?

You would have far more options with your MD. You can go into any specialty you want. Dentistry is fairly limited.

I would get a MD degree and you can always go back to school if you want a specialty degree.

You should go to medical school. There are so many more options when it comes to being a MD. While you are going through school you can decide what area you want to go into. I take it you are still young, take your time to decide what you want to do and enjoy doing. Life is so much better when you are doing something you enjoy. In dentistry you are a dentist and that is pretty much it. I am excited for you, you have such a good time in your life ahead of you.

An MD is probably more flexible and certainly has to be excellent grounding for many possible health careers. Not sure why you were interested in dentristy, then not after shadowing someone. You might want to shadow an anesthesiologist then as well.

Should be doable to come back for residency here--we NEED 25% of our slots filled by foreign med students.

Good luck.
