Is it possible for prolonged anxiety to cause an enlarged heart and cardiomyopathy? |
Is it possible for prolonged anxiety to cause an enlarged heart and cardiomyopathy? Yes! This is what happened to me. Now have an implanted defibrillator due to very unstable rhythm. However, I don't think anxiety in isolation is a problem - but put this with a virus & it can I believe as this was the start of my troubles - flu when under extreme stress & anxiety. i have anxiety and yes having a heart that has a unstable (fast) heart rate will cause it too enlarge however i don't think you will get cardiomyopathy . i posted a link that you can learn more about how cardiomyopathy is caused hope i helped Any prolonged stress can do damage to one's systems. The two problems you mention are physical heart problems. Anxiety is a psychological problem. No connection. Sorry to disappoint the other two but they are wrong. most cardiomyopathy is genetic or you get it when you are pregnant or you are a young child |
