Yes, I have had such surgery and was awake and had to keep my left arm still for over 3 hours during the surgery...arm could not be strapped down. All turned out OK...I knew some of the nurses on the case and had great faith in my cardiologist. Having faith in the person doing your surgery is one of the best things to have when having any surgery. If you do not have faith in the surgeon don't do it. Have a second opinion and find someone you do have faith in.
